Allegations of forging documents and physical abuse made by the Cohasset Police Union against Cohasset Police Chief Mark DeLuca, formerly Duxbury’s chief, were made public at a Board of Selectmen’s hearing last week. DeLuca did not attend the meeting.

In a letter to DeLuca dated May 25, Cohasset Town Manager Michael Milanowski wrote that the allegations of misconduct received by his office “… include but are not limited to, using your position as police chief to secure benefits for which you and others were not entitled to, forging important documents, physical abuse and abusing your authority during an internal affairs investigation.” The letter also informed DeLuca that he was immediately placed on paid administrative leave and that he was to turn in his badge, firearm, computer and department vehicle.

Town counsel Robert Troy fired

An ongoing civil suit against the Town of Duxbury brought by Johnson Golf Management and ensuing accusations that Town Counsel Robert Troy was “not being truthful” in statements made at an October 4, 2010 Board of Selectmen hearing and before Middlesex District Court have resulted in the dismissal of Troy by the current Board of Selectmen. At the May 29 meeting, the board also voted to waive attorney-client privilege with regard to the Johnson Golf suit.

In an April 18 Clipper interview, Troy, who was town counsel for 26 years, denies he intentionally made false statements and that if he misspoke, it was because he believed what he said to be true at the time.

After four years of hard work, of forging lasting friendships, of heartthrobs and heartaches, it was finally here. As the band played Pomp and Circumstance, the seniors in Duxbury colors — young men in green robes and young women in white robes — walked, strode and sauntered in sky high wedges, funky flip flops, natty sneakers and polished loafers, under the floral arches and on to their places of honor on the stage at the Performing Arts Center for their final moments of high school Saturday. This was the class of 2012 at their graduation.

Congratulations, Class of 2012!

Duxbury Beach was a shocking shade of red which many residents labeled ‘red tide.’ Not so, said Duxbury Harbormaster Don Beers, who wanted the public to know this wasn’t the harmful algae blooms known as red tide which can be toxic to shellfish and the humans who eat them.

COASTAL REPORT:  Is this June or April?  Nothing but northeasterly winds and rain and fog. Please Mr. Weatherman (or woman) let the sun shine!

HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK:  Cape Cod Canal. There has been a good run of stripers in the mid 30-pound to the upper 40-pound range. Fishing in the Cape Cod Canal has been red hot one minute and stone cold the next. Outside the east end of the canal in the dump area there are still schools of mackerel with some nice stripers under them. Before the nasty weather, fishing for stripers around the Race at Provincetown had been getting better but not much of a report since the bad weather. Still hearing rumors of tuna fish.

The long awaited Blairhaven Park is soon to be a reality. Wrecking crews were on the scene this week, demolishing the various structures and carting away debris. Conservation Administrator Joe Grady said he hopes to have the property open to pedestrian visitors within days.

“Demolition should be completed by the end of the week,” said Grady. “Then the (Department of Public Works) will continue the clean up. We’re removing miscellaneous fence along the landing -- there’s some chain-link and overgrowth – and we’ll put up a split rail fence around June 21.”

Boston Police, working with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrested a Duxbury man last week as part of an ongoing investigation into violent drug crimes in Charlestown.

Apprehended as part of Operation Tourniquet was Darnell Crump, 30, who gave his address as 748 Union St. He was arraigned in Charlestown District Court and charged with trafficking in a Class B substance, violating the state’s drug laws in a school zone, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and being an armed career criminal. According to Jake Wark, press secretary to Suffolk County DA Daniel Conley, Judge Lawrence McCormick held Crump on $66,000 cash bail.

Wark said Crump was allegedly observed attempting to sell crack cocaine in the Bunker Hill Housing Development. When police went to his sister’s Charlestown residence to arrest him, they interviewed Crump and he allegedly admitted to keeping more drugs in his sister’s home in the presence of young children. Police executed a search warrant and recovered 27 grams of a rock-like substance that tested positive for cocaine and a fully-loaded Spesco .38 revolver.

Operation Tourniquet resulted in the arrests of 20 suspects on gun and drug charges. All of the other suspects gave Boston addresses.

According to Duxbury Police Lt. Lewis Chubb, Crump is known to local police, but, said Chubb, “We’ve not had any significant contact with him.”

Efforts to reach Hecker for comment were unsuccessful. A pretrial conference will be held on July 23 in Plymouth District Court.
